Shang had been unconscious for days after the attack, his body overtaken by an infection in his wounds. Phoebus had placed him in the hands of the court physician but made sure to keep Shang's condition a secret. If he was attacked by his sister, she shouldn't know that her brother is alive. That could only lead to more trouble. He pushed open the door to the infirmary and to his surprise, saw that Shang was awake. "Captain? What happened?" Shang asked, his voice rough from not speaking for a whole week. Phoebus explained...twisting the story in a way that would keep the two separated forever. He told Shang that his sister had confessed to poisoning the king and tried to escape. Shang had come to see her but she attacked him before she was taken into custody once again. Her execution had happened the very next day. His sister was no more. Shang stared blankly ahead, his head whirling in confusion. That didn't sound like his sister at all. But then again...he had no memory of what had happened. For all he knew, that could be it. A tear slid down his cheek and he flung the covers off as he tried to get up. "I have to see her grave. Now. Please, I-" He cursed as pain shot through him and he was forced to lay down again. The pain knocked him out once again as another tear slid down his cheek. Su was all he had had left...and now she was gone.
Phoebus made his way down to the dungeon and ushered the guards away, leaving him alone for a moment with Su. "I have news of your brother. He didn't make it. Shang died shortly after he was brought to the physician. I'm sorry.." He muttered and after a moment, he unlocked her cell. "You are free to go....though on one condition." Phoebus moved into the cell and his figure towered over her. "You are never to return to this castle again. There is nothing left for you here. And if I see you within these walls again, I will have you hanged. Now go." He growled before he shoved a bag of clothes and food into her arms and ushered her out of the cell. At this point, he didn't care where she went. As long as she was far away from the castle. He had managed to get her a pardon since she was never proven guilty so her name was cleared.

Su stared down at the things he had thrust into her arms, even though she was technically freed she felt like someone had ripped her heart out. "I...I want to see his grave before I leave. Please...I need to pay my respects to him...one last time." The words sounded faint and pained to her own ears. "I know you think very little of me but my brother was the only person who has ever cared for me. And when he needed me, I wasn't there- Please sir I'm begging you....let me go to him." Her words tumbled out of her mouth as she stared up at Phoebus with a pleading expression on her face.

Phoebus shook his head at her request and crossed his arms. "I'm sorry but that is something I cannot do. He is placed within the castle tombs just like the other guards and you should know better than anyone that no one is allowed there. No go, before I change my mind on letting you go. I only did it for him, not for you." He growled the last words before he dismissed her without another word. With her gone, there should be no other attacks on the king or his guard.

It had been a few months since Su had been dismissed from the palace. Those first few months had been extremely difficult for her as she mourned the passing of her older brother. He had been her entire world and without him...she was lost. She'd had to move the house she had grown up in...as Phoebus had banished her. That had meant leaving behind most of the things she had had and starting over. The pots and pans she had loved to use were gone....and so was her love of cooking. Without Shang in her life she no longer enjoyed doing the one thing she loved. So she found herself a job at a local tavern, it hadn't been easy. It was a far cry from what she had done before and she wasn't comfortable at first. She was a tavern dancer and the customers were rough, but she was making money. And while she wasn't happy, she liked her co-workers far more then she had at the palace. If Shang were to see her working in a place like this though he'd no doubt be displeased with her. He had always believed in her and had worked hard so she wouldn't have to stoop to other means to make a living. She bit down on her bottom lip and pulled her thoughts away from Shang, she was about to perform and she couldn't let her emotions get in the way of all that. "Mei? You're on!" One of the girls said as she stuck her head in Su's room. Su glanced over her shoulder and nodded, she'd also decided to change her name. Holding onto her old one had been far too hard...and she wanted a fresh start.

It had taken time but Shang had eventually recovered from his injuries enough to return to his duties. A scar showed on his upper left arm and another larger one on his right side where his major injury had been. He had tried to return to his duties but nothing was the same with his sister gone. Everyone looked at him with pity. It was sickening. Finally he had to take a leave of absence. It was too much to deal with after losing his sister in such a horrible way. At first he had just stayed in the small town beside the castle in the house he had shared with Su. He hardly went outside, spending most of his time in bed but even then being out of the castle wasn't helping. All he could do was imagine that she was still there. Cooking dinner and singing to herself..cleaning with that smile on her face. So many times he thought he was hallucinating. It was like he was going mad. He had to get out of there. For months he traveled around from town to town just to keep busy. Then somehow, he ended up back in his home village. That morning he had gone to visit his parent's graves and explained all that had happened. "I'm sorry that I failed you both..." He whispered before he left, leaving fresh flowers on the graves. Gods he needed a drink. He had been at the tavern for hours before the evening crowd came rushing in, a few drinks already buzzing his senses. Compared to the others in the tavern that looked like they were just having fun, he was back in the darkest corner like a drunk. Not that he cared. He stopped caring long ago.

The lights dimmed and a soft, sultry voice filled the tavern hall. Men instantly started cheering and whistling. Then a leg parted the curtain, revealing a dark red heel. Then while still singing, the curtain was flicked back and Su stepped forward in a slinky red dress that hugged her curves. Her hair hung down past her shoulders in loose waves, the usual hairstyle forgone. She slid against one of the walls in a sensual motion and then made her way through the crowd. There were a few men who tried touching her, but she paid them no real mind and easily made her way past them. Her attention turned to a man sitting by himself in the corner, and she found herself making her way towards him. As she went she kept singing and dancing, and when she reached the mysterious man sitting by himself she slipped onto his lap. He was wearing a cloak but she was used to men who came in dressed as such. She ran her hands along his shoulders still singing and then in a bold move pushed his cloak back. The song caught in her throat and she stared at the man in horror. She had to be having a nightmare, realizing that she had been staring at him for a few moments she immediately pulled back and kept singing. This time however she had difficulty keeping her composure and as soon as her song was over she ran back to her room. The man she had seen...he couldn't possibly be her brother...her brother was dead and buried. She had to be seeing things, was her brother angry at her? It seemed preposterous but maybe he was haunting her in a sense.

Shang barely paid any attention as the nightly show seemed to start and he gestured to the bartender for another drink. Normally he might have paid attention but he wasn't in the mood tonight. He downed the drink almost the moment it was brought to him and he sighed. Then suddenly he felt hands on his shoulder and a beautiful woman appeared in his lap. His muscles immediately tensed as he looked at her. There was something to familiar about that face....about that voice. She pushed his hood back and to his surprise, her voice faltered. It was like she was staring at a ghost. But just as quickly as she had appeared, she disappeared and the show ended. Why had she reacted that way? He didn't know her....though she did look a lot like his sister Su but he just dismissed it. His mind had to be playing tricks on him...Su was dead. It was just his guilt that was making him see her...his guilt and the drinks. With a sigh, Shang pushed himself out of his seat and headed out the front door into the darkness.

Su changed out of the dress she had worn for the evening and let it fall, she needed to leave. She grabbed one of the few dresses she owned and yanked it on before she grabbed the cloak that hung in her closet. It was the cloak Shang had given her and she had kept it with her, needing the comfort it provided. True it wasn't worth much, but it was something he had given her...and she prized it deeply. She draped it over her shoulders and grabbed her pack from where it sat in her closet. Of course Su didn't have much in the way of possessions and she always kept her pack prepared just in case Phoebus ever showed up. Now though she needed to leave, and once she was outside she hurried into the woods. "Mei! You did...a superpulous job...really wonderful...might I have a special number?" Su sighed and turned around to see one of the regulars standing there. "I'm really not in the mood Yaoi." She said and turned to go only Yaoi stumbled towards her, he had clearly been drinking. "Oh come on...you weren't saying that last night." He leered. Su made a face, "You were so drunk last night you passed out on the floor...nothing happened between us and it never will." She said firmly. Yaoi suddenly reached for her and grabbed the cloak around her shoulders, only he misjudged the distance and ended up falling down. The force of his fall caused the cloak to tear and Su's eyes widened in horror as she stared at the now ruined cloak. "I...I-" She wasn't sure how to react but she was angry...and felt like a part of her had been ripped. "I...have to go." She mumbled and took off, her hands clutching the cloak as if hoping that they'd somehow mend themselves back together. In her haste she didn't see the man in front of her until she nearly ran him over. "I...I'm so sorry!" She gasped and stumbled back, the cloak she wore falling back to reveal her face as she spoke.

Shang glanced over his shoulder as someone bumped into him and managed to catch her arm before they fell. The hood slipped from their head to reveal the dancer that had bothered him only a few minutes before. Only this time, she seemed distressed. His gaze shot up to see a drunken man struggling to get to his feet and his grip tightened on her arm. "Drunken idiots..." He grumbled, despite the fact he was a little buzzed himself. Before the girl could protest, he tugged her along behind him and raced down the street. He managed to get her out of sight before the drunk regained his senses and he slowly released her arm as he watched the man from around the corner. "Sorry, I know how men like that can be. He would not have had good intentions if he caught up with you miss-" Shang's words halted as he saw the torn cloak in her arms and he froze. It looked just like the one he had given Su on that night. The royal seal on the collar was ruined but it was still there, faded and worn. "Where did you get that?" He asked suddenly but he couldn't tear his gaze away from it. Was that why this woman was so familiar? She looked slightly different but the voice...the features of her face were all the same. Shang removed his own hood and stared at her in disbelief. "Su?"

Su glanced down at her arm as the man dragged her off, and yet she didn't try escaping. All she could think was how he had Shang's face earlier on and she wanted to look at him again. He pulled her into an alleyway and then waited for Yaoi to walk past them. "It's all right...really I-" She broke off as the hooded man took notice of her cloak. A part of her silently hoped that maybe just maybe...and then he was asking her where she had gotten it. "From my-" She broke off as he pushed his hood back. Once again his face was revealed....his real face only it couldn't be. She stumbled back as she stared up at him with her lips parted, "Shang? No...no no...no..you're just another hallucination. Are you a ghost? Phoebus told me-" She broke off as she shook her head, tears falling down her face. "He....he told me you were dead." She sobbed, her body shaking as she stared up at him.

Shang blinked as she stared at him like she was looking at a ghost and his suspicions were only confirmed. This was really her. For months he thought she was dead...everyone thought she was dead. "I promise, it's me. I never died Su....I don't know why he would tell you that. But he told me you were..." His words trailed off, too scared to say that she had been executed for fear that maybe she was the ghost instead. Though she still looked like she was going to run from him. "It's me Su..." He whispered as he slowly took a step towards her, his hand taking hers. Without even thinking, he did the only thing that came to mind to prove it to her. His body leaned down towards her and his lips pressed against hers in a tender kiss. She had to be able to sense his desperation through it...she had to. It seeped out of every part of his being ever since her death...a hope and desperate need to have her in his life again. And here she was.

Su blinked in surprise as Shang suddenly leaned forward and kissed her. She'd never been kissed before...not like this anyway, it was tender but at the same time desperate and demanding. A tiny moan escaped her before she could stop it as she slid her hands up his chest. All too soon reality hit, and she pulled back with an unsure look as she stared up at him. In all the years they had known each other, not once had he ever kissed her. She swallowed hard and then leaned forward to kiss him again, not able to stop herself. Kissing him was different...amazing and different all at once. What had stopped her from doing this before? He tasted of alcohol and something else, "Shang...you're drunk...we shouldn't be doing this." She whispered as she pulled back reluctantly.

Shang wasn't paying any attention to what he was doing and hungrily kissed her back as she returned his gesture. His hands gripped her waist as he pulled her closer. This was just like a dream...he had had a few about kissing her once and a while as they were growing up but he never thought about doing it for real. She was his little sister after all...he had just blamed it on his hormones. Though she was pulling back and he playfully growled under his breath. So what if he was drunk? That didn't change how much he wanted to kiss her in that moment. "I don't care...I finally have you back again." He whispered as he pressed her back against the wall of the alley. Gods she tasted amazing...he wanted more.

Su let out a shocked gasp as he pressed her back against the wall. His words made her shiver in anticipation, she was so very tempted to just keep kissing him. He started kissing her again and this time she didn't stop him. She was so caught up in the kiss that she failed to notice the group of guys being led by Yaoi. At least not until one of them yanked Shang away from her and punched him in the face. "Mei? I thought we had an understanding...and that you wouldn't hang around anyone else." He said as he approached her. Su glared at him, "You're delusional...we've never even-" She broke off as he gripped her face with his hand and pulled her towards him. "Don't talk back to me...I gave you the job." He growled as he sneered down at her. Su struggled then which only made Yaoi smirk, "I'm your boss...which means you're my bitch. And one word from me...and the entire royal army will personally take care of you and your little friend here." Yaoi said as one of his men punched Shang in the stomach. Seeing Su's shocked look his smirk grew even wider, "What? You didn't think I knew? Your face is almost as well known as the King's, what was it I heard...that you tried poisoning him? I gotta give credit where credit is due...you are a wildfire...one I want nothing more then to tame." His look down her body made her skin crawl.

Shang had just been about to make a move when suddenly he was ripped away from her and punched in the face. His boy tumbled back and he landed on the ground, taking a moment to regain his composure. The world around him started to spin slightly thanks to the drink that was in him but he forced himself to try and get up. He didn't get far though...not too long after, he was kicked in the stomach and the wind was knocked out of him. How was he the only one in the kingdom that didn't know she was alive? Had everyone in the castle just been lying to him? Phoebus had said that Su had tried to kill him as well as the king...maybe everyone else believed him too. But Shang knew that his sister would never do such a thing...it wasn't like her. Suddenly Shang jumped up and tackled Yaoi to the ground, his hands coiling around the man's throat. "Touch her again and I will have you all hanged." He threatened, his cloak falling open to reveal the royal symbol on it's inner collar. Even though he was on a leave of absence, he still kept at least the cloak of his uniform with him in case he came into trouble. A part of him hoped that it would do some good tonight.
