Wendy barely had time to register that someone had gripped her around the waist before she realized she was being carried off. Naturally she tried struggling as she needed to get some air into her lungs, finally just when she thought she'd pass out they both surfaced. She spent a few precious moments coughing water out of her lungs as she glared up at him. Before he could finish his sentence she slapped him, "You don't just drag someone like that underwater, I almost died you idiot!" She hissed, although she slowly realized that perhaps he might have just saved her life. All the same she was far too upset with him to care at least in that moment. "I understand you were trying to protect me, but maybe next time try not being too forceful." She continued once she managed to get her temper somewhat under control. She slowly realized that they were both naked and immediately slid lower under the water in an attempt to conceal herself. "How long do you think they'll stick around?" She asked as she avoided looking at him directly as she remembered that not too long ago she had been eying him.

Korso blinked as she slapped him and his gaze darkened. "Well next time I'll let you get caught then, how about that." He spat before he turned his back to her again and looked out. From the looks of it, their campsite had been found and Korso cursed. His thoughts immediately went to the box. He had to make sure no one found that. If they did...he'd be done for. He only had one choice now...gods he hoped he'd never have to use that. Korso turned to look at her, his eyes holding as much seriousness as his voice. "Stay here. Don't make a sound. I'll come to get you when it's clear." When she tried to protest, he held up his hand and then pressed a finger against his lips. Once he was sure she'd listen, he slipped beneath the water and left her alone. He managed to make it to the shore unseen and he slid between the shadows until he was sure she couldn't see him any longer. Korso took a deep breath before he focused and closed his eyes. Moments later, his body shifted form and he shrunk down into the form of a black wolf with piercing green eyes. It had been years since he'd used this form...there had been a time when he had trouble containing this side of himself. One of the men came around a few feet in front of him not long after he shifted and Korso jumped into action. He had recognized all of them from the party. They were all scum. None of them deserved to live. He moved from one to the next, taking out each man only within a few moments though the more he killed, the more the others fought. Once he was done, Korso shifted back into his human form. Blood coated his skin and he looked down to see a stab wound in his side. He winced when he saw how much it was bleeding but he ignored it and dove back into the water to retrieve Wendy. As he resurfaced inside the little cave, he grabbed her hand and started to drag her out. "We've got to get out of here before more of them show up. Let's go." He ordered, not giving her much time to protest.

Wendy glared at him, "Well maybe if you had actually looked around earlier we might have had some warning!" She snapped. She frowned though when he turned to leave, "Where are you-" She broke off as he held up his finger to silently warn her to keep quiet. She let out a quiet huff as he slid under the water and took off towards where the men were. Unable to help herself she peeked from behind the waterfall to see what was going on, then to her shock Korso changed. Now he was a black wolf, she couldn't believe her eyes...she'd heard of shape shifters...but seeing one in person was something else. She watched with her eyes wide as Korso tore into the men who had been patrolling the lake. Finally he stopped and to her astonishment turned back into a human. Before she knew it he was back at her side and trying to move her away from the cave. "No stop! You're bleeding! If we leave you in that condition you'll die...and I am not going to have you die on me Korso." She said firmly as she turned him around to face her.

Korso rolled his eyes at her words and his hand gripped her arm. "If we don't leave now, you will be dragged back to that place and I'm sure your father will not be pleased. Do you really want to face that?" He stared down at her, almost challenging her to protest again before he forced her ahead of him. She was right though. Just shifting had drained enough of his energy and if he had any to spare, he would have healed himself already. But he was more concerned about keeping her in his protection. If he lost her now, he'd never get her back in time for his deadline. That was something he would not allow to happen. Though Wendy still didn't seem to listen and Korso growled before he lifted her up and threw her over his shoulder. "If you would listen, I wouldn't have to treat you like a child." He muttered before he carried her to shore and grabbed her clothes as well as his. "Now hurry up and get dressed. I'm not taking you like that." He tossed her the dress she had worn while he pulled on his own clothes, the fabric sticking to his muscles considering he hadn't taken the time to dry off.

Wendy rolled her eyes, "Men." She muttered under her breath as she yanked her dress back on, failing to notice how it clung to her curves. She could still remember him hoisting her onto his shoulder like she hadn't weighed much at all. It was bit of a turn on to be honest, but she was more concerned with Korso's wound then anything else. They managed to make it his horse and she carefully wound her arms around his waist, his wound was becoming more blood soaked by the minute and she grew even more alarmed. He kept their horse at a steady fast pace all during the night, until finally the horse grew tired. She had had to use some of her dress sleeves to give him a makeshift bandage during the journey. In the pale moonlight though she could see that it was just as blood soaked as his shirt. He started to sway then and before she could stop him he tumbled over the side of the horse. She let out a frantic sound and followed after him, albeit more gracefully. "Korso! What do I do? What do I do? I can't lose you...please wake up." She begged frantically as she stared down at him, panic rising in her as she tried to think of what to do. To her horror tears were starting to fall down her face, and she stared at him fighting down another swell of panic. Looking around she saw a cave nearby...it wasn't ideal but it was more cover then outside which was starting to look cloudy. "I knew we should have bandaged it earlier...don't you dare die on me Korso." She whimpered as she carefully started dragging him towards the cave, not trusting herself enough to try and carry him. After a few tense moments she finally made it into the cave which thankfully had some kind of stream in the back. Now all she had to do was make a fire...Gods she was useless...she had seen Korso make one earlier but she wasn't so sure she could duplicate the process.

Korso had lost track of how long they had been riding through the night but he didn't care. Though the longer they rode, the harder he found it hard to concentrate. His vision slowly started to blur and his grip gradually loosened on the reins. Before he knew it, his world started spinning. He landed with a thud on the ground and he could vaguely hear the sound of her voice. Everything sounded muffled and as she hovered over him, her form was blurred until everything went black. When he came to again, he could tell that she had managed to move him which was impressive. From the sound of her voice, he could tell that she was flustered. A chill ran over his body and he groaned, struggling to lift his hand and pulled out some matches from his pocket. "Wendy..." Korso nudged his hand towards her to give her the matches. Some of them may have been wet from being in his clothes but at least one would be able to start a fire for her until he recovered.

Wendy glanced down at the matches he offered her and grabbed them, muttering a silent word of thanks. Then she tried to remember just how to light it, now all she'd have to do would be to get some firewood. "I'll be right back." She said over her shoulder before she darted back outside. Rain had started to fall in a light drizzle bit she paid it no mind as she gathered the wood. Then before she could forget, she retrieved their horse and brought him just outside the cave entrance. She ran back into the cave and set the wood down before she went back to their horse and got the blanket roll out for Korso to lie down on while she got the fire started hopefully. He was deathly pale she noted grimly and she was feeling even more at a loss. She turned back to the fire pit and did her best to set up the logs in a manner that would carry out the job efficiently. She had a feeling that it wasn't going to resemble a normal fire, but she did the best she could. Finally she bent down and lit the match, before placing it into the pile she had created. Almost immediately a fire started up, well maybe she wasn't entirely hopeless. She glanced over at Korso and tentatively took his shirt off, his wound was still pretty bad and she winced when she saw it. It was a miracle Korso had lasted this long, "You're insane...I guess that's probably a reason why I like you." She muttered under her breath as she let out a little breath. There was something she could do...but she was a little afraid that it wouldn't work. After a few moments she shook her head and gently pressed her hands down on the wound, a tiny glow emanated from her fingertips. Hopefully it would dull the pain somewhat, and make it easier for him to sleep...beyond that she'd have to do her best at mending the wound on her own. She took out a needle and thread and set about working on sewing the wound back up. Her stitches were small and precise but she hated that she might be hurting him in the process. "Maria." Wendy's head snapped up and she glanced down at him confused. She'd never heard of a Maria but he kept saying her name in a tone that actually twisted Wendy's heart. From the sound of it Korso had truly cared about this Maria woman...whoever she was she had been pretty special. When she was finished sewing him back up, she went back to the horse to grab a nightgown although when she came back she saw that Korso's condition had worsened. A fever had come upon him and he was thrashing about in his sleep. "Oh no...no no no." She mumbled as she dropped her nightgown and hurried towards his side. Much as she was reluctant to do so she knew what she had to do, "Please don't hate me." She whispered as she went about taking her dress off and grabbing a sheet to pull over them both. Then before she could change her mind she slipped her arms around him and held him as gently as she could, "Please don't die on me." She whispered as she pressed a gentle kiss on his forehead.

Korso groaned, his head pounding as he slowly came to. The last thing he remembered was being with his wife...She was giving birth to their child but everything had taken a turn for the worst. He had tried to heal her with his magic but nothing seemed to work. She never even got to see their child...Though Korso furrowed his brow when he realized it had been years since that night. He must have been dreaming it again. His muscles felt heavy as he tried to lift his arm but he looked down in confusion when he couldn't move it. Then he noticed the hair that tickled his neck and he looked down to see Wendy lying next to him. From the looks of it, she wasn't wearing anything but her underclothes and his hand moved beneath the sheet to make sure he was wearing pants. To his relief he was, which meant he hadn't slept with the girl. Korso froze when he felt stitches on his side and he looked down, taking in the handiwork. Slowly his memory returned to him and he remembered what had happened the day before. A smirk came to his lips and he gently shifted out from underneath her so he wouldn't wake her. He gingerly pushed himself into a seated position and hovered his hand over his wound. After a few moments, it slowly faded and the stitches disappeared like there had been nothing there before. He sighed and was about to stand up when Wendy slid her arms around his waist again and rested her head on his stomach. Korso felt his heart skip and laid back on the ground, not wanting to disturb her. His fingers lightly ran through her hair and then down her arm, loving the feeling of her silky hair and soft skin. Somehow she had taken care of him well enough that he survived...Without even thinking, he leaned down and pressed a kiss against the top of her head.

Wendy slowly stirred as she felt Korso move and immediately shot up, nearly hitting him in the process. "You're awake! Oh thank the Gods I was so worried!" She said and hugged him, making sure not to hurt him as she did so. Then just before she could change her mind she leaned up and kissed him on the lips. "Don't ever do that to me again! I thought you were dead." She quietly admitted as she clung to him and looked up at him with some concern. He looked a little pale still but nothing compared to the night before and for that she was very relieved. "I told you we should have stopped before then-" She broke off with a shaky sigh and shook her head. "Just try not to do that again please...I...you really scared me back there." She said suddenly realizing just how close she was to him. Almost immediately she pulled back and cleared her throat, it was scary almost just how much he had started to matter to her. However seeing him practically dead the night before had really done a number on her and she wasn't so sure she could handle something like that all over again. She moved to leave his side, mostly just to get the fire up again she'd kept an eye on it all during the night off and on. "Good thing you had those matches...otherwise I'm not so sure you would have survived with just my body heat keeping you warm." She pointed out over her shoulder once she had built the fire back up. She slowly made her way back to him, getting her nightgown from off of the floor as she did so. "I think we should stay here at least for a few more hours...that wound of yours isn't going to go away that easily. I was able to bring down any fever you had last night, but you could still get another fever if you over work yourself again." She continued after a moment.

Korso barely even had time to react before Wendy suddenly woke up and hugged him. If he hadn't just healed himself, it would have been painful. Though his muscles were still sore and he grunted as her body practically pinned him down. Her lips pressed against his in a kiss and without even thinking, his hand slid up into her hair. He hadn't expected her to care so much...Wendy seemed to realize how close she had been to him and she moved away. To his own surprise, he missed her warmth. Once she moved towards the fire, he pushed himself into a seated position and ran a hand through his hair. "I'm fine...It's gone. It's just sore now...I'll live." He sighed and pushed himself to his feet. Though he seemed to stand up a little fast and he stumbled, having to catch himself on the cave wall so he didn't fall back down. His vision started to spin a little and he cursed softly under his breath. He must not have recovered from his blood loss completely. If he had more energy, he could fix that but he didn't want to pass out on Wendy again. She had had enough trouble the night before.

Wendy's head snapped up as she heard Korso stumble and immediately she dropped the nightgown to run to his side. She barely managed to catch him in the process, his head lolled back onto her chest and she frantically checked his side. He had said that his wound was gone, "How...could it be gone? How did you do that?" She asked as she ran her fingers over where his wound had been just the night before. His skin was smooth there as if he'd never even been injured and she stared over at him in astonishment. "I know it wasn't me...I can only soothe someone's pain." She said quietly as if not remembering that Korso was right next to her. That meant that Korso had to have been the one to heal himself...that was absolutely incredible. "That is amazing...you can't even tell that you've been injured." She added in a soft undertone.

Korso ran a hand over his face and dimly realized when he felt Wendy's arms holding him from behind. At her words, he smirked and looked down, watching as her hands ran across his skin. "Let's just say I'm full of surprises." He turned in her touch and looked down at her. Korso hadn't noticed until that moment how bare she was to him and he couldn't help his gaze moving over her form. Her chest was resting against his and it was taking everything in him to not kiss her senseless. Though his thoughts stopped the moment he realized what she had said and he raised an eyebrow. "Wait, you can do what?" Had he heard her right? She was from a family strictly of humans. There was no way she'd be able to have any sort of powers like that.

Wendy glanced down at him as he turned in her arms and looked up at her, "I...well I um...I can soothe someone's pain...make it so they can't feel any pain. At least not for awhile...I used it when I was stitching you up, you probably wouldn't have felt any pain but I couldn't help myself." She said with a shrug. "Dad said I was born with a special gift...but he never wanted me to use it for any reasons other then his own. It's nothing compared to shapeshifting though...that was amazing! I never got the chance to say as much earlier on. I've always been fascinated by that particular gift...and the wolf I mean...can you change into any other forms? Or is it just the wolf?" She asked curiously, having seen him transform yesterday had made her very curious as to what else he could do. He must have been the one to cure his own injuries...there was no way she could have done that. At least not without serious repercussions on her part.

Korso blinked as Wendy revealed her powers and he immediately pulled back from her, putting a distance between them. The only other person he had known having that ability had been his wife and it was rare enough that this was unusual. He was brought out of his thoughts when she mentioned his shapeshifting abilities and his gaze darkened. "You weren't supposed to know about that...I shouldn't have done that." Korso turned and moved across the cave, crouching down as he started rummaging through his bag looking for a shirt. "I haven't done that in years. I made a promise to someone that I would never do it again and I broke that promise. Now let's just drop it." His tone let her know that it was not up for discussion and he tugged a shirt over his chest. Maria had died because of his lack of control...He was young and hadn't been in control of his powers. Had he been stronger, he could have saved her but he was useless and his abilities would always harm him in different ways. She had made him promise never to endanger himself like that again and yet he had done just that. He had almost killed himself for being so reckless...that's what Maria wanted to avoid. And he had failed her.

Wendy flinched as she realized that had been the wrong thing to say. "I'm sorry...I didn't mean to bring up any painful memories." She stated quietly, keeping her head lowered. At his other words though she felt another stirring of curiosity and bit down on her bottom lip, "Was that Maria?" She asked before she could stop herself. She realized that she had inadvertently asked him a question, he no doubt wouldn't want to answer. "You said her name last night during your fever...she sounded important to you. Forget I even asked...I don't need to know." She continued gently feeling a flush of shame work it's way onto her face as she turned to pick up her nightgown from off of the ground. She'd have to get a dress from her pack as she had a feeling Korso wouldn't want to stick around for very much longer.
